A shirt and joggers. The new normal?
It feels very much like the right time to resurrect the blog. The Covid-19 pandemic has left plenty of extra space for thinking and reflection.
Over the last couple of weeks I've been fascinated by how TV and social media videos have adapted to the "new normal". Creativity is in full effect as TV personalities who would normally be seen in their fancy studios, with the perfect lighting and perfect hair are now seen in the full raw selves. I'm thinking particularly of Jamie Oliver. Now presenting his cooking skills in his "actual" home and not in the fake home kitchen that his studio creates. Sat with his t-shirt and joggers on, unshaven, hair looking like he's just rolled out of bed.
I love this new way. It feels real, more sincere. Plus also shows that there is a lot that would normally go into making an all singing all dancing cookery show. And for me the viewer, I get a better peek as to how these people actually live, that they are actually human, with the same problems as me, dealing with the same issues as me. Largely, how to cope during a global crisis.
I'm also getting some great tips for how to create my videos, as I watch the celebs trying to juggle the skills of being the presenter, writer, director, producer, editor, and camera operator. I personally feel like I still have to put a shirt on and have shave. It helps me switch my mental state from "solitude" mode, to "community" mode. Ready to give my best and be positive.
I had considered just wearing my joggers with the shirt, as the camera wouldn’t show them. But again it didn’t feel like I would be bringing my whole self to the show. I also get to feel a little bit like I've left the house and gone to visit a client's offices. At least for a few minutes anyway.
