The MAIN reason why employees are not productive
Last week I launched my free online productivity quiz to enable employees to get their free productivity score plus some insights.
Over 150 people have taken the productivity assessment so far and there’s some startling trends emerging from the data.
What’s stopping you from being productive with your time?
48% of people are saying yes to too many things
39% say that they are spending too much time in email and messaging apps
41% are regularly procrastinating, find it hard to start things they want or need to get done
The most alarming stat is that a whopping 72% of people are getting interrupted when focussing on their tasks. Nearly three quarters of people.
Why can’t I concentrate on anything?
Those interruptions can come from various directions. The noise can come from from managers, colleagues, customers, suppliers, friends and family. There’s always someone asking for a piece of our time and attention.
Those interruptions from your colleagues in the workplace usually start with “Have you got a minute?” Rarely is it a minute.
Verbal conversations might go on for half an hour, and digital message conversations can continue right throughout the day.
A 2016 study by Microsoft and Stress and workplace researcher Gloria Mark found that when working at a screen we are interrupted on average very 40 seconds. Thats less than minute to focus and get into the zone on any task.
Why should I avoid multitasking?
We end of getting caught in the multitasking trap and our attention is fragmented. We’re not giving our best to anything.
This leads to things to being completed, mistakes being made, and any time management going out of the window. Things end of taking longer and spilling into evenings and weekends.
If you want to rate your personal productivity take my productivity quiz now and in less than 2-minutes you’ll get your score plus some useful insight.
Although if we’re getting interrupted every 40 seconds, even completing a 2-minute quiz could be a struggle for some!
