How to make Productivity cool
When we hear the word productivity, what does our mind automatically think of? Time management, hard work, effort, dullness, discipline?
Well not any more, as they guys at the pop music website popjustice.com have come up with a simple brilliant fun idea. If you love music and you also want to be better at getting stuff done they’ve come up with their answer. It’s call the Popodoro Technique.
Time blocking plus pop music
You might be familiar with the Pomodoro technique, which in its simplest form tells you to block your work time into 25 minute chunks followed by a 5 minute break. Repeat this four times then take a 15 minute break. You use a tomato shaped kitchen timer to track your time, or use a timer on your PC or device.
The popodoro technique follows the same rules, but instead of using the timer you use the Spotfiy playlist that Popjustice has put together. You listen to approximately 25 minutes of Brian Eno’s nice relaxing music whilst you concentrate and focus on the tasks at hand. Then it kicks into a Girls Aloud pop track for your break. Then it’s back to Eno again as you continue the task.
A fun playlist that works for you
You can find the playlist at SEXENONONO (here’s a direct link to Spotify). They’ve created this word as it combines Eno with NoNoNo (from a Girls Aloud track). If you like your pop music like me, take a look at the full explanation at popjustice.com as it’s very amusing.
Of course you can create your own playlist of your favourite music for this to work too. Maybe you like the sounds the other way round, with louder stuff whilst you work followed by more relaxing sounds during your break.
Have an experiment with sexenonono and let me know how you get on.
